interview with kyrah<3

Updated: May 19, 2020

Today I got chat with Kyrah, the lovely lady behind the most ethereal jewelry shop based in NYC ,Etherie! I hope you all fall in love with her sweet character just like I did!

You can find her store @etherie on instagram and EtherieShop on Etsy!

What made you start your shop?

I started Etherié to explore my creativity in a way that I could share with the world. I was never super talented at art, music, or photography, so I never saw myself as “creative”. To me, Etherié wasn’t a business but a way to channel my passion and curiosity into something tangible.

Was it hard to start your jewelry shop?

Starting a shop was a huge leap for me. I was kind of hesitant at first, so I started with only two designs. I was shocked when my first customer was all the way from Germany! At first, learning how to balance costs and ship orders was hard and a little intimidating. Fortunately, I learned a lot through practice, and just by reaching out to others in the small business community. Many of the shop owners I spoke with were really friendly and helped me through the learning process.

Cherie: lover collection🍒

What/who inspired you? I love to travel, and fortunately I have the ability to visit new places pretty often. A few of my designs, especially the ones from the lover collection, are inspired by the classic styles of Paris and Amsterdam. Even though I’m a loyal New Yorker, my favorite city that I’ve visited is San Francisco.  I feel like every place has something unique to offer in terms of inspiration.  For celebrities, I look to Ashley, aka @bestdressed on YouTube. I love her style and aesthetic, but also how passionate and down-to-earth she is. Instagram is definitely my most-used social media, so I also turn to @victoriamisu and @indg0, who have the most beautiful pictures, and a ton of moodboard accounts and niche memes, which are my guilty pleasure.

What meaning does your shop hold to you?

For me, Etherié is the first thing that I truly created by myself, so it really represents my independence and means a lot to me. It came into my life at a time when I was dissatisfied with the status quo, which is why butterflies are a large part of Etherié. To me, they symbolize metamorphosis, a sort of potential for transformation and change. The butterfly effect is the idea that a small action can have a great impact on the future. I guess you never really know what plan the universe has for you, which is scary but also freeing.

Another collection of beauties😌🦋

What message do you want to convey with your jewelry shop?

Well, Etherié comes from the word “ethereal”, meaning extremely light or delicate in a way that seems too perfect for this world. Sometimes, our world makes it hard to see the beauty in yourself, in your environment, in others. Our lives are spent pursuing goals and attaining distant milestones, while so much of the beauty around us is within our grasp - and temporary. We spend time chasing peace, happiness, and perfection, never realizing that it is already nearby or within us. Etherié is really about expressing your inner beauty and magic in a way that makes you feel good.

Are there any tips you may have for people who are starting their own jewelry shop? Yes! Let go of the belief that you have to be perfect at something to do it. Even though putting yourself out there is a big step, don’t be afraid to try. It’s never too late to begin, to set new intentions, to change the energy around you, and to delve into your passions.

Any final messages that you have?

The pieces from Etherié are designed to bring out your inner angel. While it sounds cliche, I believe that everyone has their own magic. Don’t let anything take yours away.  And of course, thank you to The Lust Zine for giving me this opportunity!
