Amazing purple satin masks by @ambrosesalad
This week I’ve been thinking alot about masks, specifically the ones made by the artist Magnhild Kennedy and fellow VCUarts students Clare Wislar and Ambrose Hernandez. Fine art masks are often unwearable by normal standards of acceptable fashion, but live in a space which combines something technically wearable, with sculpture. These pieces are informed by the human body, but often created to change it through the addition of material. Historically masks have been used as a tool to hide one's identity for safety. Masks are a helpful tool due to their ability to conceal the human form by adding to it. Artists mentioned in this piece can be found on instagram @damselfrau @virginiahearse_art @ambrosesalad. "
